What is Hakomi and How is it Psychotherapy?
Hakomi is a traditional Hopi word. As a psychotherapy community, we honor and are grateful to the Hopi people, their ancestors and land for the privilege. We acknowledge the Hopi Nation, their sovereignty over their language and its use.
The psychotherapy practice and definitions of Hakomi weave two related meanings, piecing together its original Hopi significance of “how do you stand in relation to these many realms” and the psychotherapeutic discovery of asking “who are you”.
Imagine how the Body can be reflective of the Psyche, inviting the experimental process of here-and-now Self Study. Using Aliveness, Curiosity and Allowing to explore “how do you stand in relation to these many realms” and “who are you” are a remembered wholeness.
How does Hakomi deepen into core material, and resolve personal concerns, trauma and grief?
As a practice, we engage the principles of respect and compassion, while inviting an integrative embodiment of resourcing and grounding your body. As you notice what is alive in your awareness, opening up to different categories of experience, an invitation to become more attuned arrives.
A neuroplasticity begins to create new neural pathways in the brain as learning begins to take place. New experiences are mapped out within the structure of the brain, as the adaptive process of a here and now integration occurs.
We’re meeting core material relating to limiting beliefs and how one is self-organized to respond to life, based on earlier childhood experiences, messages and strategies. The Categories of Experience help with deepening into the unconscious, as we stay in awareness.
Categories of Experience can dynamically engage your inner world through:
Thought, emotion, belief, longing, meaning, sensation, impulse, image, memory, dreams, intuition, and parts of self.
It’s a deepening into what wants to happen next in your experience.
The unfolding experiential process offers the possibility of inviting your inner wisdom to guide you into a sense of deeper knowing.
With current discovery and the invitation for conscious change, a sense of moving more easily in the world becomes more accessible to you.
